Atlantic crossing

I am in the middle of writing up my dissertation.  A wise person, who had been through this experience, warned me that there would come a point where you believe that you know absolutely nothing about your subject matter.  Nothing at all.  Nada.  Zero.  It is patently untrue of course, you are simply aware of all the stuff you haven’t read, rather than all the stuff you have.  Anyway, she was right.

One of the people I interviewed for my research used a lovely analogy which describes the feeling.  It’s as if you’re rowing across the Atlantic in a small boat.  You get halfway and realise how far you’ve come.  But there’s still an awful long way to go, and it’s as hard to turn back as it is to keep going.

Looking forward to seeing dry land.
