A second way to help yourself to think more creatively, in business or in any other sphere of your life, is to hear other perspectives on a problem. If something is bothering you, find out how other people would tackle the issue. Ask as many different people as you can – your kids (out of the mouths of babes and all that jazz), your ageing aunt, your customers, your employees, your colleagues, the man at the bus stop, ‘phone a friend. The more points of view you can gather, the more perspectives you’ll have on the issue and the more options for action from which to choose.
Along the way, you’ll pick up some bright ideas and insights you might never have thought of on your own. You’re also much less likely to miss something crucial which would cause you to later slap your palm to your forehead and say, “Doh”.
