Well, floating above the steps at Manchester Art Gallery actually. I met up with my daughter in Manchester and we decided to have a quick look at the new Anthony Gormley sculpture before we headed home. The Gormley-sized figure is suspended over a flight of stairs inside the gallery. Wierdly for something so heavy, it appears to float in space. From a distance it looks dangerously solid. Up close you can see through the figure to a bunch of metal grapes which form the heart. A falling figure, or one who is happy to be locked in the space?
I love having this stuff so close to home. See how they installed the sculpture in this clip from the BBC.
